Kolli Hills

Hello friends,

The below narrated blog is my husband and his friends trip to Kolli hills and a thrilling as well as overall nice experience throughout the trip.

This is about a journey through the beautiful Tamilnadu village to Kolli Hills. During my college time, we visited this place for trekking and relaxation. I went with my friends, so there are more excitement awaited on this trip. Come lets get into the blog. We took a car and started from Karur, Tamilnadu and then headed straight to Kolli hills. It was a straight three hour journey from Karur / Erode. The through roads were very beautiful and easy going.

DAY 1:

There are many bus services to Kolli Hills from Salem and Namakkal. Kolli hills is a serene and secluded mountain range, which is located 360 km from Chennai and 110 km from Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. It is at an altitude of 3200 feet above sea level, in the Eastern Ghats Mountain Ranges. The hill is enclosed with medicinal herbs, Natural honey & Spices.

On both sides of the road way from Namakkal to Kolli Hills, we can see highly fertile agricultural lands with Coconut trees, Banana trees, Paddy, Potato, Onion, Jackfruit tree etc. are cultivated there. The place depicts traditional culture & activity.  We reached Kolli Hills which is full of Greenary and enjoyed the valley view and also the Hill's beautiful Climate. After a thrilled drive from the valley named Karavalli (Foothills) and through 70 hairpin bends it was an adrenalin rush experience. In between we got down from the vehicle and enjoyed the valley view with its beautiful climate. Kolli Hills has been a favourite spot both for adventure and for hiking, trekking, etc. as well as for enjoying the beauty of nature.

In the middle of journey there are two view points that directed us to Arappaleeswarar Koil and Akash Ganga falls. We headed to the temple and found a small hotel to have breakfast. After that we went to the Akash Ganga falls.

To reach Akash Ganga Falls we need to Climb down the hill valley with vertical steps.Climbing down was not tough. There were some impressive view points here and there on the path. The path went swirling down! Walking in the midst of the mist and fog was a great feeling! After climbing down completely, there at a distance we have spotted the waterfalls. A few more steps to reach and the last lap was through rocks and boulders and Aww! we are finally in front of the impressive, huge, magnificent Akash Ganga Falls.Wow!! It was massive. A stream of water was between me and the waterfalls, Can't explain though it was mesmerizing. The water flow was more dangerous! However some shift arrangement were made to reach the waterfalls.A rope that ties the position with the iron rods below the falls is used to the hold and to reach the falls (It gives big experience).

We got very tired, Our leg and knee got heavy pain after climbing down. It’s almost thousand steps! At a point we ran out of breath. Somehow we managed, but one of my friend had a real difficult time. After enjoying in falls for some time, we started to climb up the stairs. Yes, this was definitely more challenging one when compare to climb down. It was really difficult and finally we made it to the top. On the way, we realized the biggest mistake that we did not carry enough health drinks/Juice for refreshment.

About Akash Ganga

Akash Ganga, called Aagaya Gangai in Tamil. The river named Pancha Nathi aka Iyaaru (Five rivers) falls. Akash Ganga is a gorgeous waterfall where water cascades straight down from a height of 300 feet. All four sides of this waterfall are surrounded by hills.

We returned from Akash Ganga falls at 12.00 PM noon, then had a lunch. After that we checked-in to resort and took rest because it was such a heavy trip.We went to Boat house and enjoyed lake boating. After that we went to small botanical flower garden. Kolli hills is not safe for roaming at night time so returned to resort at 5.30 PM in the evening. We purchased lot of snakes with drinks and had at time of camp fire activity.

DAY 2:

Then next day morning we woke-up early around 6.30 am and went to nature walk, Walking is one of the toughest task to do every day. Strictly did 1 or 2 km distance walk then we found one Tea shop, we had morning snakes tea with bread / rusk. After that we went to resort & packed up all the things. Then we went to Masila falls around 9.00 AM. We made lot of fun activity on the way to falls.  After that enjoyment, we tasted the herbal soups & fruits sold by local people.

About Masila Water falls

Masila falls is located 12 Km from Kolli top.We reached this place with more take diversion routes because there is no signboard. This is not large when compared to Akash Ganga Falls. This has decent Infrastructure and nature scenic, it is the right place to enjoy waterfalls activity with your family. This water falls will open between 8.30 AM to 5.30 PM.  We enjoyed up to 12 PM.There are lot of memories we carried to cherish forever.

We packed up all our things and we climbed down the hill. Before that we had lunch in hotel and then moved to Tampcol Medicinal Farm, we bought some herbs. We also went to Kolli street market(Kolli Santhai), here cost is very less when compared to city shops for Spices (Pepper, Jeera,Cinnamon and Cardamom etc.,) and  Fruits (Jack fruit, Banana and Papaya) as well as for quality but very careful as some people will cheat in measuring. It was two and half hours of journey and returned.

  Note:

Please don't plan for Akash Ganga falls when going with your family and aged people.
Don't Roam at night in kolli hills, because there are chances where wild animals will attack.
